My computor and I. A caveman running technology...

I am not sure if I run the computor or if it controls me. I have an HP with an Athlon dual core processor running Windows 7. I bought this unit in Dec 2009 at WalMart for about $600.00. It seems to run and do just about anything that I want it to. I hooked a Kodak printer up to it and love the performance of the printer and the low cartridge cost.
I guess my biggest challenge here at home is the internet service I am using. I am hooked up with Wild Blue which is satellite based and quite a bit slower than high-speed. If a thunderstorm passes by I might as well log off and go have a smoke because I will invariably loose connectivity. The good news is I had the tech man from my provider out last week because the power convertor burnt out to the modem and he told me that close to the end of this year Wild Blue plans to boost their speed near to what high speed is at. Man, I cannot wait for that day.

  1. I absolutely despise a slow connection speed too, Ray. Here is a kind of neat site that will tell you your current uploading/downloading speeds according to your nearest server city (Mine is St. Joseph, MO) using your ISP address (I have Grand River Mutual) After doing this quick test it says that my current dl speed is 3.88 mb/s which isn't that great, but the more you pay for your internet the higher speeds you will likely acquire. Here's the site if you're interested: http://www.speedtest.net/

  2. I no that feeling Ray. Slow connection is the worst. I too have recently gotten a printer for my laptop and i love it. I love how fast it is! Although my computer is older than yours i can relate!

  3. During the summer my connection gets a little slow because there are more users on it. I have Mediacom. My speed is good and I am happy with it. I do not play video games on it so that is not an issue I have to deal with.
In response to your question on what printer I have, you and I are alike, I have a Kodak ESP 9 and I love it.

  4. Glad to hear that you made me getting an upgrade to high speed. I know that it is the best thing that has ever happened to my life, well almost the best thing:)

  5. I am sure that with the little guy gone you will find something to do. I do know how it feels to miss the little ones. My granddaughter 2 years old in April and grandson 6 weeks old live in Shanendoah now. I sure miss them a lot. As for your speed and connectivity problem you may want to check into Mediacom. We have Mediacom and I have found that I have very few if any problems with it since we changed over to them. We have the set up that everything is through them, modem-router- and the rest. I am not sure if that is a choice you have but we like it. We also have our cable through them and we bundle our services

  6. I have a Compaq Presario which is built by HP, and I love it! I've got too much stuff on it so it tends to be a little slow booting up. I had connection problems when I had Iowatelecom, but switched over to Mediacom about a year ago and haven't had any problems since. You will like the high-speed upgrade later this year!

  7. I've never herd of Wild Blue, are they suppose to be cheaper? Recently my internet was upgraded to fiber optic its suppose to be twice as fast as high speed but I don't really see it. HP is a good brand and thats a pretty good price to.

  8. You know we had an HP for years and years and although my husband hates them I think they aren't too bad. I have a gateway now and its not terrible but I sure do miss my dell.
